December 18, 1921

Powerful cyclonic winds during the early hours of December 18, 1921, caused thousands of dollars worth of damage in Luzerne County’s Wyoming Valley. In Kingston howling winds tore away the roof of the Peffer Oil Company and knocked down its concrete walls. Winds also blew out the front of the top floor of the Wilkes-Barre Beef Company, and knocked down several smokestacks on the No.6 and No.7 boiler houses of the Susquehanna Coal Company in Nanticoke. The sudden storm uprooted many trees, blew down telegraph and telephone poles, and did minor damage elsewhere.
